I was honored to be an invited speaker at the 19th Hellenic Conference of Ichthyologists that took place on October 30th-November 2nd, 2025, at Ioannina, Greece. My talk focused on the global impacts of ocean warming on ecosystems and fisheries catches especially highlighting Mediterranean and Greek examples, as well as my relevant postdoctoral work on Indonesian and US fisheries.
I was also happy to present Fish n’ Ships Aegean Sea to a wide and super enthusiastic Greek audience and connect with multiple interested parties in governance, education, and research. And I was excited to chair an interesting session on “Population and community monitoring” in the context of Fisheries – Marine and Freshwater Environments together with my good colleague Dr. Konstantinos Touloumis, FRI.
Finally, it was my great pleasure to give the Rainer Froese award to two graduate students for their excellent presentations (Kostantina Michailidou, AUTH, length-based stock assessments and Konstantinos Kavakakis, WWF Greece, MSC certifications for sustainable tuna fishing).
One of the highlights was my interview on two local TV channels, iTV Ioannina and Epirus TV where I shared some details about my contributions to the conference regarding the effects of warming on ecosystems and fisheries, as well as science communication through games.
